Born in 1959, Eyal Yanilov began his Krav Maga training in 1974 with Eli Avikzar (at the time one of the top instructors). Soon afterwards, he began studying Krav Maga directly under the personal tutelage of Grand Master Imi-Sde Or (Lichtenfeld), founder of the Krav Maga system. Eyal demonstrated extraordinary talent as a student, and later as an Instructor. He went on to serve as Imi’s closest assistant from the early 1980’s for almost 20 years. Eyal is the only person in the world to whom Imi presented the highest grade in KM: ‘Master Level 3 (Expert Level 8)’ & ‘Founders Diploma of Excellence’.

To meet the needs of modern conflict in the world today, Eyal Yanilov, after Imi entrusted him with this mission, had created a new curriculum for Krav Maga. The aim was transforming it into an organized and formal system that is built on the principles of action and unique instructional methods.

In those years, Eyal turned Krav Maga into a technical and integrated system and also was responsible to teach this new way to the high graded Israeli instructors. About a decade later the mission was to build KM also as a tactical system. Nowadays the system is composed of three pillars, Self-Defense, Combat and Fighting, and VIP and 3rd Party Protection.
Eyal first did that as the head of the Israeli Krav Maga Associations (IKMA) Professional Committee and was highly instrumental in the educating the general public and in the benefits of the system, as well as military and anti-terrorist units in Israel.

Eyal has devoted his life to spreading Krav Maga around the world. In the United States in the mid 1980’s and Europe in the mid 1990’s. He began teaching in various sectors from civilians, to Military Units and Law Enforcement personnel.

It all started with the first Krav Maga Self Defense Instructors Course for American citizens being held in 1981.

Practically, Eyal had increased and created high demand for Krav Maga around the world. To manage this ever-growing demand, Eyal has founded, with several of his students, the International Krav Maga Federation (IKMF) in 1996. He served as its Chairman and Head Instructor under the guidance of Grandmaster Imi, until the later passed away in 1998.

One of the last evolution stages of the system and its spreading of which Imi and Eyal did together, was the grads and levels in the system. There are 3 sections with 5 grades in each – Practitioner, Graduate and Expert Levels. Each level has its own curriculum, goals and ingredients. Krav Maga has since spread throughout the globe and Eyal has personally trained the world’s first generation of Krav Maga Instructors in over 40 countries. Since Imi’s death in 1998, Eyal has taken upon himself the responsibility of leading the continued development of Krav Maga throughout the world In 2001.

He published the book ‘How To Defend Yourself Against Armed Assaults, written in conjunction with Grand Master Imi prior to his passing. The book is just the first part in a series of 3 volumes which demonstrate the only official and comprehensive manual of the Krav Maga system. The first book published is dealing with conflict situation that involve weapons, as it also includes many of the core principles of the system.

In 2010, Eyal established Krav Maga Global (KMG), a global infrastructure designed to disseminate the system throughout the world in a more structured format whilst maintaining highest level and quality of training.

Under the personal supervision of Eyal, Krav Maga Global operates a team of highly qualified instructors known as the ‘Global and International Teams’ (GIT). Their responsibility is delivering to future instructors the proper education, exclusive workshops and specialist courses throughout all over the world. Many Military Units and Law Enforcement personnel have adopted the system of defensive tactics and self-defense and use Krav Maga Global as their training provider. The organization is active in over 60 countries throughout the world.
