November 2011 Newsletter
Dear Friends,
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was marked worldwide on November 25th. Women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence, yet the true scale and nature of this phenomenon is often hidden.

According to the UN Department of Public Information, up to 70 per cent of women experience violence in their lifetime. Women aged 15-44 are more at risk from rape and domestic violence than from cancer, car accidents, war and malaria, according to World Bank data.
It’s important that we understand that any abuse of any woman is intolerable.

KMG is joining the struggle and on the 2nd of December we will be holding a Woman Self Defense seminar in Washington DC with Meyrav Bar-Haim (E 1, women’s self-defense expert and member of the KMG International Team).
The workshops will focus on the following topics:
Dec 2, 6:00-8:30pm – Evaluation of Dangerous Situations & Dealing with all their Aspects
Dec 3, 9:00am-12:30pm – 3rd Party Protection
Dec 3, 2:00-5:30pm – Neutralizing Knife Threats and Threats with Firearms
Dec 4, 9:00am-2:30pm – Women’s Seminar
For those who will be coming in from out of town and need suggestions on hotels and travel, please feel free to email: nick@firstdefensemac.com
For more information & registration: www.FirstDefenseMAC.com
We hope to continue raising awareness and promoting woman self-defense globally.

Why Krav Maga is needed in Military Training
By Eyal Yanilov
Krav Maga, past and present, through today’s eyes
Formally, Krav Maga started in the Israeli Defense Force in the 1950s. In fact, Krav Maga is deeply rooted in the knowledge and experience that Imi, the founder, endowed since his early days in Bratislava, Slovakia in the 1920s, 1930s and later in the mid 1940s and 1950′s when he taught in the HAGANA resistance and in the IDF.
During the years Krav Maga has formulated into a technical and later a tactical system. This practically started in the mid 1980s and I was very involved in that creation as the head of the professional committee and the closest assistant to Imi.
The Role of KMG in military training
The Working Assumption – Investing in the Human Resource
Creating and educating fighters as complete combatants is a primary consideration for achieving determined, aggressive and self-controlled fighters, capable of fulfilling the demanding and dangerous tasks at hand. Creating officers trained to make holes in paper targets, firearms technicians if you may, must be avoided.

KMG offers an alternative way.
In order to educate soldiers, officers and members of the elite units in a way that achieves the above, modern military forces need the right method and proper tools. The topics of self-defense, hand-to-hand combat and fighting in close quarters when firearms cannot be used, fulfill these needs.
Our organization, KMG – Krav Maga Global, with its unique system and excellent instructors, gives a high level of education and training, experience and knowledge that you can’t get anywhere else.
The Goals of KMG Military Training – Creat a Fighter, Uplift the Soldiers’ Level
As our goals are to educate the members and officers of any given unit, to the highest level possible – mentally, technically, tactically and physically, we train them to become determined, effective and efficient fighters.
For this we also qualify high-level, proficient in-house instructors, capable of teaching Krav Maga to the different units and task forces within the modern military’s or police milieus.

The subjects that we deal with and instruct the different units
There is a resemblance between our civilian and military training. However, soldiers and officers need specific training in order to function in the battlefield and other missions. These specific needs are the basis for KMG military training.
Based upon the soldiers’ level and tasks, we will focus on:
1. Basic attack and counter skills, releases and defenses against armed and unarmed attacks and threats.
2. The proper approach for military personnel, soldiers and officers that will enable the achievements of the tasks at hand.
3. CQB and Fighting in urban terrain; operations in urban areas; function in open terrain and all other locations in all sorts of conditions with different levels of equipment.
4. Dealing with confronting a sudden attack from a close range or when there’s no possibility to shoot. Handling and using the firearms for the purpose of defending armed or unarmed attacks and releases from different grabs.
5. Weapon retention – keeping the weapon in times that the assailant tries to snatch it and use is against the soldier or against others.
6. Taking or handling POW; Controlling of others.
- Pain compliance
- Takedowns and comealongs
- Handcuffing and tying up using rope and common material.
7. Using the firearm as an impact weapon:
- When the weapon can’t shoot: stoppage, no ammunition.
- Too dangerous to shoot – other people may get hurt.
- Illegal to shoot due to regulations and laws of the country.
- Officer is trained and confident enough to solve the problem – Does not want to shoot, in order to reduce harm.
- Soldier got orders not to shoot.
- When the natural response is not to shoot or when shooting does not solve the problem.
8. Different tasks
- Peace keeping missions, more police and L-E missions.
- Having simple and complex missions among civilians.
- Use of specific tools and equipment; baton, handcuffs and more.
- Functioning in a non-military environment, also as a soldier in vacation or off duty, in a civilian milieu.
9. Guards duties
- Maintaining the peace
- Protection against criminals
- Self-defense
10. Education of fighters as complete warriors
- Mentally – Fighting spirit; Determination; Aggression; Functioning under stressful conditions.
- Physically - Combined exercises; Fitness and conditioning; Absorbing ability; Fighting capabilities
- Technically – Defined Techniques; Variations; Simulations; Elevation of stress while performing missions that include Krav Maga.
- Tactically – Fighting Tactics; Defensive Tactics.
11. Special Units and Operations
- Specific techniques.
- Designated tactics.
- Unique drills and simulations.
- Preparation for unique tasks and missions.
