“Body of War”
Once again our talented Nick Maison manages to amaze us as part of a fascinating project called “Body of War”. Nick and his KMG team choreographed and acted in all of the Krav Maga scenes in the movie.
Body of War (2010) reflects on how a man becomes a soldier through the relentless repetition of acts of violence. Set in the Normandy Landing geography, punctuated by testimonies of serving soldiers, a visceral hand-to-hand combat is gradually deconstructed – inviting the viewer to engage in the relationship between human intimacy and the brutality of war choreography.

In memory of Imi
Imi was a humble man, he didn’t show off and never looked for fights, quarrels or trouble. He liked people, as long as they were good and if they happened to do bad, he usually forgave them.
Imi preached and behaved the same way- his actions and words were one.

Imi always asked his students to refrain from confrontations in the streets. Krav Maga was for self-defense, for protecting others – family, friends and the community, definitely not for bullying or drunken street fighting.
When I started training Krav Maga in the mid 1970′s, one of the stories I heard about Imi (from other youngsters) was that once, in a line to the cinema in Netanya (the city where our families lived), three young men tried to cut in line, so Imi punched all of them.
As a teenager this was a fun story to hear. Imi behaved like the heroes in the Hong-Kong Kung-Fu movies that were so popular during those years. It was great fun to Imagine and visualize Imi, the “old man” (Imi was about fifty years older than me) knocking out three young men.
One day, years after I heard this story, I recalled it. Fortunately, I was no longer fifteen and I couldn’t believe that Imi would behave in such a manner. I decided to ask him about that urban legend that was circling amongst us during those years.
The next day when I visited his home I simply asked him if the story of punching those men in the line to the cinema was true.
Imi smiled and said “Never Happened”. What happened was that those three young men tried to buy tickets from the side of the ticket box office instead of standing in line. Imi told them “before me – you will not buy”, and that was it: no punches, kicks or knockouts.
Was I disappointed? Definitely not. That was the “Imi” I knew and respected.
May he rest in peace.

A Review of January
Winter “Touring & Training”
Twenty five people from nine countries, some of which are returning old friends, participated in the KMG Touring & Training Winter event.
Thanks to the nice weather the group’s training time was divided between Netanya’s beatiful beach and the Wingate institute’s spacious well equipped halls.
Prior to leaving Netanya, all of the participants visited the shooting range which was so sucssesful that some participants returned to the range for some more shooting at the end of the course.
The group was accoumpanied by a travel guide during the full period of touring, which also included Krav Maga training at unique locations.
The trip to Jerusalem included The City of David and the Western Wall. The first night in Jerusalem ended with a night training session under Eyal ‘s instruction at the foot of the Old City walls and later on in a local bar.

On the following day, the group continued its trip in the city and by evening trained with Eyal in Masada. After breafkfast the group climbed Mesada, were they enjoyed another training session with Eyal and a guided tour of this fascinating site.
Later that day participants descended to the Dead Sea, trained some more and enjoyed dinner and night bathing at the Hamat Gader hot springs.
During the next few of days the group visited some beautiful locations in the north of Israel. A couple of nights were spent at a Kibbutz situated on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, where the accommodation included a pampering spa and heated swimming pool. The group also enjoyed an authentic Bedouin hospitality dinner.
The last few days of the event were spent in Netanya, Friday was devoted to touring Tel- Aviv-Jaffa and of course excellent Krav Maga training.
At the end of the last days training all of the participants received KMG certificates.
We can’t wait for the Summer Touring & training in June We expect it to be an awesome event.
See you there…

Expert Camp in Hungary
The camp took place in Budapest and was attended by 27 participants. In addition to the Hungarian participants, there were KMG instructors from Croatia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, England, Slovenia, Trinidad, Finland and Israel.
The course was instructed by Eyal and Tal Kvores, the level was exceptionally high and all the participants who were tested passed the tests successfully.

Winter Camp in Germany
The annual winter camp that took place in Aachen, instructed by Tal Kvores and Jan Tevini, was attended by over 40 participants from Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Greece, Sweden and Israel .
Amongst other the seminar covered the following subjects: working with weapons, 3rd party protection, CQB, training with obstacles, water training and training that simulates a fight at a night club.
GIC and seminars in Norway
As part of our activities in Norway this month, Eyal and Ilya conducted a number of events:
We are pleased to say that several participants graduated our local General Instructors Course.
A two day seminar for Law-Enforcement officers and instructors took place, featuring relevant self defense techniques, Law-Enforcement defensive tactics issues and the use of designated hardware.
An open seminar with over 60 participants of various levels, focused on topics from the updated KMG curriculum, especially self defense tactics and applications in standing, sitting and on the ground. All was about how to deal with armed and unarmed attacks, from the Practitioner, Graduate and Expert levels curriculum.
The highlight of the event was the Graduate and Expert levels preparations and testing. Eyal focused on delivering Expert 3 and 4 material (no tests were
conducted for these levels) and together with Ilya Dunsky and Rune Lind tested for levels G3-4-5 and E-1.
Out of the 9 experienced people who tested, 2 passed the Expert level 1; 1 passed the Graduate level 5; 1 passed the Graduate level 4; 1 passed the Graduate level 3. Four people will need to re-test
after some more training as some of the subjects and techniques were not presented yet at the required standards. In every hurdle lies an opportunity to elevate, so keep on training guys, for sure you will get much better, you are talented, but as we all know, it is mainly the hard work that takes you forward not the talent.
The main testing event for the G levels and Expert levels 1-4 will be conducted in Israel during the E & G camps in June 2012.
From a sage’s writing, Eyal would like to share this free quote “A thought leads to action. Action leads to habit. Habit leads to character. Character leads to destiny”.
So alternate your thoughts, train, work, act and take your life to where you wish to go.
